The national Sealife is a home to over 2,000 creatures from around the world. The centre was opened on the 5th of July 1996, at a time when it was the only sea life attraction in the UK. It’s located along the Birmingham Canal Navigations, Main Line Canal by Old Turn Junction and opposite Arena Birmingham, which is near to the city centre. Which also make it easier to visit the city centre for a day of shopping as well. Describing itself as “A place that transports visitors into an underwater world of discovery” it does not just appeal to children or animal lovers it’s a wonderful day out for everyone and plus its very local, so there is no need to worry about time. It has many attractions such as the giant Pacific octopus, Horseshoe crabs, green sea turtles, sharks, and stingrays. The center has been featured in many documentaries, such as BBC’s ‘Penguins on a plane: Great animal moves’ and ‘Shark’. Sir David Attenborough visited the centerin 2010 while filming his BBC2 series First Animals. In 2009, the center announced its newest attraction, a “Sensorama 4-D Cinema. In addition to 3-D viewing, the audience can be subjected to sensations such as wind, salt spray, and the smell of seaweed, really adding to your overall experience.

Dudley zoo opened to the public in May 1937, built on Dudley castle grounds. This idea came about by the 3rd earl of Dudley who chose a team of modernist architects to design the zoo and with this they created a new design of buildings called Tectons. These buildings proved to be sturdy as they have stood the test of time for the last 86 years, even receiving world monument status in 2009. Today, these buildings are boosted by animal houses, paddocks, and enclosures which have 200 night species. A lot of the animalcollection is linked to international conservation and breeding programs, with several of the zoo’s global projects having earnt awards. The zoo is sited on a 40- acre wooded hillside which has a rich geological history.

Founded on the site of an Iron Age camp, there were actually many different buildings before the existing Towers, but from 1412 until 1924 they all belonged to the same family - the Talbots (Earls of Shrewsbury). The grounds at Alton Towers were first opened to the public by the 18th Earl in 1860 when the total income was £116.17s 5d (£116.87p!). By 1890 Alton Towers was attracting crowds of 30,000 to watch acrobats, lion tamers, elephants, bands and fireworks, as well as the gardens. In the early 1900s the 20th Earl, who had interests in the Talbot Motor Car Company which he had founded, began to spend more and more time at his Ingestre Estate. Lady Shrewsbury lived alone at the Towers until 1923 after her husband's death in 1921. Although the bulk of the estate had already been sold in 1918, in 1924 the remaining lands and Alton Towers itself were sold to a group of local businessmen. So, after some 700 years the Towers and the Estate passed out of the hands of the Earls of Shrewsbury.
